22 Tips And Tricks For Helping With Baby Constipation

Thank you to everyone who came to Bruno’s rescue and shared all the ways to help with baby constipation. About a month ago, we started Bruno on a diet of half breastmilk half formula. He has had extreme reflux since he was born, and combining the breastmilk with the Hipp Anti-Reflux formula has made a huge difference in how much he spits up. The downside has been that he seems to be getting constipated now, going days without pooping, which causes him to be super uncomfortable and fussy. I didn’t end up using any of the recommendations this time around, as he finally had a giant blowout in the morning, but I wanted to post them so all of us could reference them the next time. Here is a list of the things people recommended the most. Of course, I would double-check with your doctor before trying any of these suggestions and remedies out.

1) Prune Juice – this one was by far the most common recommendation. Dilute it with water or some breastmilk/formula and administer it in a bottle. Many people said that a good rule of thumb is 1 ounce of prune juice per month of life with a max daily dose of 4 ounces. I would check with your doctor to find out the best prune juice to water ratio for your baby.

2) Warm Baths

3) A little Miralax in the baby’s bottle

4) Apple Sauce

5) Frida Windi

6) Baby Chiroprator

7) BioGaia Probitic Drops

8) Prune Water – prunes soaked in water overnight

9) Gently move the baby’s legs in a bicycle motion while they are lying on their back.

10) Massage the baby’s belly in a clockwise, circular motion.

11) Epsom Salt Bath

12) Pear Juice – same as the prune juice. Diluting it and giving it in a bottle.

13) Glycerine suppositories

14) Ready Set Go Dietary Supplement

15) Anise seeds boiled and then give the baby some of the water.

16) Fill a sink or tub with warm water and submerge the baby’s belly into the water to promote relaxation.

17) Apple Juice – same as the prune juice. Diluting it and giving it in a bottle.

18) Baby Nordic Natural Fish Oil added to their bottle.

19) Foot massage. Google the particular pressure points linked to the gut.

20) Evivo Baby Probiotic

21) Boil 5 plums in a cup of water, let it cool, and then give the baby 2 ounces of the liquid.

22) A bit of aloe vera juice added to breastmilk/formula.
